Recruitment Style Guide

Hello! My name is Maddy Ailes and I am a member of Alpha Phi’s recruitment team this year! I am a freshman here at UT, majoring in Textiles and Apparel. A brand new fall semester is right around the corner and with that comes Sorority Recruitment. Yay! Finding the perfect outfit for recruitment can be stressful, so we are here to help. Here is a day-by-day style guide to help you prepare.

Day 1 and Day 2: Open House

These first two days are the easiest to prepare for. The night before recruitment week starts, Panhellenic will provide you with two t-shirts to wear during this round. Pair the t-shirt with some khaki shorts and some comfy tennis shoes and you're all set! For the shorts I recommend J.Crew’s 3” Chino khaki shorts because they are the perfect length. Maybe add a cute belt to spice it up! Jewelry for this round is also pretty simple. Some cute stud earrings and a dainty necklace is all you need to rock Open House! Above is a sample picture, but be sure to wear the khaki shorts!

Day 3 and Day 4: Philanthropy

During the next round of Recruitment you will be getting to learn more about each chapter’s national philanthropy. A cute sundress or romper paired with some sandals or wedges is the perfect outfit! Think of a cute outfit you would wear to a church or a graduation party and pair it with some simple jewelry.  This round is still very long and busy so remember to stay comfortable.

Day 5: Sisterhood

This is one of my favorite rounds of recruitment where you get to learn about each chapter’s unique sisterhood! A classy dress is a great idea with a pair of wedges or heels. Add some fun jewelry that shows your style and you’re ready to go! For this round, dress like you would for a banquet. You want to look very put together but not too formal. Sisterhood round can still be pretty busy so pack a pair of comfy shoes in your bag to change into in between parties.

Day 6: Preference

Preference night is the most formal round. This is the time to fully dress up. Wear a black cocktail dress with some classy heels. This outfit should be something you would wear to a formal or a wedding. Pair the look with your best jewelry and get ready for a night full of sisterhood, friendship, and traditions!

Day 7: Bid Day

You made it!!! On Bid Day you will gather at Hogg Auditorium on campus to receive your sorority bid and finally meet your new sisters and lifelong friends. Wear a fun colorful sundress or romper with some sandals you can run home in! Add some simple jewelry and get ready to celebrate with lots of pictures and fun activities. Bid day is a day you will never forget so remember to have fun and smile.

Extra: What to put in your Recruitment bag

  • A water bottle

  • A portable fan

  • Comfy sandals or flats

  • Deodorant

  • Oil blotting paper

  • A hairbrush

I hope this style guide helps you through recruitment week. If you still have questions about what to wear, just remember to be yourself and wear something that makes you feel confident. We can’t wait to meet you in August!!
